Get to Know Us

The Twelve Year Dream

My passion for honeybees turned an idea into a reality when tHREE bEES hONEY was founded in 2018. Growing up, I was always one of those kids that would catch insects, lizards, and other animals in order to study them and try to learn how to take care of them. This eventually turned into a passion for all animals and I earned a college degree in Veterinary Medical Technology. Over the years, I developed a keen interest in pollinators, especially honey bees. After moving to Mechanicsburg and purchasing a home in 2006, I began learning about colony collapse disorder affecting honey bees and how honey imported from other countries was badly adulterated with sugar or contaminated with chemicals. I dreamed about having my own honey bees and what it would be like to have honey from the back yard. I would visit an observation hive at a plant nursery near my home to watch the bees, and began reading and taking online courses. But I could not maintain bees on my property at the time.

In 2011, I married my best friend, David, and moved to his home. Here the dream that was just a seed could get planted. But, first, we had some "nesting" to take care of. In March, 2018, we decided the time was now right to begin this endeavor and purchased two Flow Hives. Our goal was to produce honey that was as close to eating it right out of the hive as possible and Flow Hives seemed to be the ideal match for collecting the honey with this high level of expectation. It was time to hit the books! We joined Capital Area Beekeepers Association (CABA) and started attending every meeting and learning opportunity. I was given a mentor and I met and assisted him in his apiary on several occasions to get hand-on experience. CABA maintains a teaching apiary and I attended every session. In November of 2018, we purchased two nucleus colonies for the spring of 2019 from a local beekeeper. We picked up our two little colonies on May 2, 2019 and our journey began.

Since 2018, both of us have devoted hundreds of hours to learning and applying best practices in the management of our bees. We continue to learn and research how to best take care of our honey bees. We go to great lengths to ensure that our bees are as happy and healthy as possible and they have rewarded us with a bounty of golden goodness. We are proud to share the excess honey we produce with our local community.

If she eats it, we sell it!

Sadly, we lost our littlest bee in August, 2020. While we are devastated, we are letting her lifetime of memories light the way through our grief.

Thea

Quality Control Manager

“Busy as a bee” adequately describes our little bee, Thea, that joined our family in November, 2020! She is actually Ember's second cousin twice removed. She's now fully indoctrinated in all things bee and honey, especially not eating the girls! Stick to the honey, Thea, stick to the honey! Credit goes to Clever Crow's French Bulldogs of Lewisburg, PA, for bringing this little one into our lives.

Cassiopeia (Cassi)

Quality Control Specialist in Training

Cassi is our surprise for 2022! We decided to add on to our little family of three. Cassi was born on Mother's Day and will be joining our family on August 5, 2022! Even though we'll now be four, we think we'll stick with tHREE bEES... Credit goes to Harlie's Ride French Bulldogs out of Lubbock, Texas for our new baby girl.
